I have served as a committed advocate
within our schools for the past 17 years; working to improve student
achievement and rallying parents to get engaged in education. My professional and civic work has
always focused on the needs of children and families in this community.
I am the former Executive Director of two local non-profit agencies,
Right Moves For Youth, a drop-out prevention program and the Johnston
YMCA. Both are United Way agencies that I lead for nearly a decade. My
background in non-profit management and my community advocacy give me a
unique perspective on the issues facing our children, our schools and
our community. As an At-Large member of the School board, I will offer
innovative and viable solutions that are in the best interest of all
children.
My primary goals are:
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT |
Provide each child with a quality education that
prepares them to become productive citizens who graduate on time
and are prepared to successfully pursue higher education or
compete in the global marketplace.
|
EQUITY & ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE |
Ensure that every school within CMS is equipped to
be a school of excellence and desirable to students and parents
regardless of its location.
|
TALENT ACQUISITION, DEVELOPMENT & RETENTION |
Focus on learning by ensuring that each classroom
has a well trained, highly effective teacher and that every school
has a team of prepared and engaged administrators (i.e. principal,
assistant principal, counselors, etc.)
|
OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS |
Require efficient, equitable and transparent budget
decisions that meet the operating and capital needs of a large
urban/suburban school district.
|
Professionally, I bring real world experience in the areas of drop-out prevention, on-time graduation and gang intervention – three pressing issues within CMS. I come to you with knowledge, expertise and passion. I ask that you vote for great leadership on November 3, 2015 and cast your ballot for Ericka Ellis-Stewart.
